The attraction and retention of General Practitioners (GPs) remains a challenge not only in the network but nationally. Many of the network's new GPs are international medical graduates (IMG) who often need to up-skill and access peer professional support. IMG meetings are an informal collegiate designed to meet the needs of this important group.

The meetings provide a forum to develop discussions on clinical information and knowledge, improve skills in diagnosis and formulation of treatments, and to gain a better understanding of the referral pathways for patient treatment.

The SouthEast Primary HealthCare Network coordinates the promotion of these meetings, run under the enthusiastic supervision of a GP Mentor. At the monthly meeting, a guest speaker addresses the group, providing education on a topic of interest. The members frequently organise themselves to meet on the alternate fortnight for clinical discussions prior to the RACGP exams.
