The number of people settling in Queensland under the Humanitarian Program has increased over the last ten years, with the origin of entrants also changing over this period. In 2008 proportion of refugees were equally divided between Middle East, Africa and Asia. Currently, Logan receives 17% of the state’s total which is around 400 entrants per year.

The SouthEast Primary HealthCare Network prides itself on the continued work it carries out through collaborative networks to help provide the best level of support for general practices and the Logan community.

The SouthEast Primary HealthCare Network assists general practice by providing resources, ongoing information and education on:

  • Cultural awareness
  • Refugee referral pathways
  • Refugee health assessments
  • Refugee immunisation program
  • GPs with a special interest in refugee health

Changes to MBS item number!

The health assessment for refugees and other humanitarian entrants may be completed under MBS items 701 (brief), 703 (standard), 705 (long) or 707 (prolonged) depending on the length of the consultation which will be determined by the complexity of the patient's presentation.

This health assessment is for refugees and other humanitarian entrants who often arrive in Australia with complex and unusual medical conditions resulting from their area of origin or previous living conditions.
