The number of people settling in Queensland under the Humanitarian Program has increased over the last ten years, with the origin of entrants also changing over this period. In 2008 proportion of refugees were equally divided between Middle East, Africa and Asia. Currently, Logan receives 17% of the state’s total which is around 400 entrants per year.

The health assessment for refugees and other humanitarian entrants may be completed under MBS items 701 (brief), 703 (standard), 705 (long) or 707 (prolonged) depending on the length of the consultation which will be determined by the complexity of the patient's presentation.
